We wanted a chilled beach day and decided to head back to Kuta which everyone had enjoyed on the last visit. Rama parked for us and we found a spot in the sand under the awesome shady trees, where the local "barman" provided us with chairs, beers and cool drinks. Our "friends" the massage ladies soon came over in the hopes of more massages, pedis, plucking and jewellery sales but we tried harder to resist this time! Van went off to rent a surfboard and catch some waves, while Nix and Lau went in search of Bali artworks. Laura bought a beautiful large piece which needed to be rolled up, and Nix a three piece painting. The artwork we liked had an interesting, almost "snakeskin" appearance created by dots of paint, with abstract modern images.
After relaxing for a while in the shade, our appetites peaked and we went in search of lunch. We didn't have to go far as the "Headquarters" beach club and restaurant behind us looked pretty good. We got a long table at the almost deserted restaurant and ordered fish and chips, satay and other interesting dishes. With -2 degrees Bintangs!
After lunch we headed back to the villa, and spent the afternoon snoozing and relaxing by the pool. For dinner we had booked a special night at Breezes restaurant at the amazing Samaya hotel, right on the beach, which Grandma had very kindly offered to sponsor. We arrived just before sunset, at the beautiful hotel and were shown to elegant couches with a view of the beach below and imminent sunset. We all ordered cocktails and enjoyed the beautiful light, before being shown to our table.
The sky was filled with kites, the restaurant with lanterns and the beach with people, and the sunset was perfect. We started with tempura oyster starters, and Van had a fish wrapped in banana leaf while I had salmon and scallop. Delicious food all round and a wonderful evening.
