Egypt Day 8 - Travel to Jordan

We had another early start, this time 4:30 wake up call and were in the bus by 5:00 heading for the airport which was very close by. Mohammed made a small speech and thanked us, and also asked us what our highlights were, everyone had something different. Kim also made a speech on our behalf and thanked Mohammed and gave him a tip, he was an amazing guide and always made use feel so well looked after. The way he managed to bridge our culture gap was brilliant and we were really lucky to have had him as our guide and friend. We flew Egyptair 6:30 to Cairo, and were back in Cairo before we knew it. This was the end of the tour, and we said goodbye to travelers who had become friends.

Some of us were travelling onwards and stayed in the airport, so we hung out with Steve, Emma and Bert, cruising coffee shops and burger kings trying to find free wifi. Finally at 5:00 we boarded our onward flight to Jordan with Steve who was also doing a G adventures tour there.

Arriving in Queen Alia international airport in Amman, we got a totally different feel to Egypt, it felt very well run. We were glad we didn't need visas, which are 40JOD (R800). We were extremely lucky that Steve's CEO (G Adventures Chief Experience officer) was there to collect him, and was happy for us to come with.

We drove through the clean, wide new streets of Amman past big beautiful houses and were very impressed. We arrived at the Belle Vue hotel, a tall hotel at the second circle in Amman, and were very pleased with it as well, much nicer than anything we stayed in in Egypt. Ahmed the CEO explained that Amman was characterised by 8 large traffic circles, and most taxi drivers know the circles, not the street names.

We arrived too late to join our G Adventures briefing, and were tired and hungry so we walked out of the hotel with Steve to grab a bite. We found a large selection of small takeaways and restaurants and ended up in a kebab shop which BBQed three skewers of lamb freshly for us, wrapped them in bread (a wrap) with hummus and served this with salad and chips. It was yummy and cost us 3.5 JOD (R70) for both of us.
